POSITION BRIEF

Role: Intermediate Interior Designer / Project Lead

Reporting to: Principal Designer

Structure: Freelance, Project Based

Estimated Hours/Week: 10-15

Hourly Rate: $60-$70 based on experience

Start Date: August 11th (training)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Sarah Birnie Interiors is seeking an intermediate-level designer who brings both creative vision, customer service abilities and operational skill. The role involves working closely with Sarah Birnie across all aspects of high-end residential and boutique commercial projects—from concept development to final install.

This is an opportunity to step into a leadership-support role with space to grow into greater creative ownership over time. The right candidate is highly organized, independently motivated, and passionate about meaningful, timeless design.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Creative:

  • Collaborate directly with the principal designer on concepts, materials, and space planning

  • Prepare floor plans, elevations, and presentation packages

  • Source furnishings, finishes, and vintage elements

  • Contribute to styling for installs and photoshoots

Project Management:

  • Lead day-to-day oversight of assigned projects

  • Track budgets, timelines, and procurement logistics

  • Liaise with trades, vendors, and fabricators

  • Conduct site visits and coordinate installs

  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–6 years experience in interior design (high-end residential preferred)

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and Google Workspace

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities

  • Confident communicator, with client-facing experience

  • Familiarity with local design related vendors, showrooms, and trades a plus

  • Calm under pressure, solutions-oriented, detail-driven, pro-active and positive.

  • A natural collaborator who is equally comfortable working independently

  • Wiling and excited to think outside the box

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Studio Designer (or Design Docs)

  • Passion for vintage, sustainable sourcing, and storytelling through design

  • Knowledge of styling, photography prep, and shoot logistics

EMPLOYMENT STRUCTURE

6 month freelance contract at competitive hourly rate, with potential to move to full time salaried position if the fit is mutually successful.
